Afraid of change

If you've never been frightened by change, raise your hand

Change, be it geography, leadership or a simple change of software version, can generate anxiety that is not always well received. With all the challenges it imposes, routine is a sure thing and offers us the peace of mind of knowing where we're going, both personally and professionally.

The level of security the change offers us, the impact it has and the ease with which it can be implemented can make it more or less real.

On a professional level, change has the aggravating factor of responsibility, because we are making a decision that affects not only us, but the entire organization, and the choice to change will always be more controversial, as it challenges the established routine. But the risk of not changing, of becoming complacent, is also high, so it's essential to look for changes that have an impact, that bring us security and that don't worsen the organization's work routine.

Let's take an example from Contisystems to show you what an easy and safe change can be, once the respective impacts have been assessed.

A smart card, because it contains personal data, and even financial data in the case of bank cards, is a critical instrument in the relationship with your customer. Ensuring that it is produced, personalized and delivered securely is naturally a huge concern, which is why changing supplier at this level may, due to the impact it has, require a more careful assessment. However, this change can offer you security if you realize that there are good references and that the change process is simple and easy.

Replacing the personalizer for Portuguese issuers is an easy and secure process. In fact, all they have to do is make changes to the content of the logical file they send to the data generating entity. This change is made in two fields, in the field relating to the personalization entity, which will now be "Contisystems", and in the field relating to the entity sending the personalization file, which will also be filled in with a different description.

Before sending the logical file to the data generating entity, issuers must generate a Transport Key for the new personalizer with that same entity. This new key will be used to encrypt the sensitive data in the card personalization file.

Once Contisystems has received the card personalization file and the Transport Key and all the above interactions have been guaranteed, it can then personalize the test cards for certification which will be delivered to the issuer, together with a personalization report.

After the BIN certification process for the respective Brand (VISA or MASTERCARD), during which they will be fully supported, Contisystems is certified for the customization in question.
